  1. Although cutscenes can often be jarring, they do provide some positive benefits for the player. They can often hide load times, and while they do create a sense of removal, they can at least keep your head in the created world, which is something that a load screen cannot do. If games are intense and/or difficult, they offer a welcome respite to the gameplay. When highly stylized, they instill an extra sense of power and ability that cannot be achieved through player control (think Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry). It's important to remember that a lot of games still try to tell a story, and the only way to ensure that all players see a that story is by using tools such as cutscenes.
